This glossary provide some explanations about fabric and designs used on this website.

  • Camisole
    A sleeveless top of waist length with spaghetti straps. Commonly used as undergarment or negligee and usually made of cotton, silk or satin.

  • Capri Pant
    Pants of length between knee and ankle, usually for casual wear.

  • Charmeuse
    Charmeuse is a type of silk or satin fabric with a luminous finish and crêpe back. This luxurious fabric is often used in lingerie and evening wear.

  • Chemise
    A sleeveless dress of mid-thigh length with spaghetti straps. Commonly used as lingerie and usually made of cotton, silk, satin or chiffon fabric.

  • Chiffon
    Light, airy and translucent fabric woven from tightly twisted yarns resulting in a crêpe-like texture. Chiffon is usually made of silk, but can also be made of rayon or synthetic fibers. Chiffon is commonly used in evening and night wears.

  • Combed cotton
    A cotton fabric with a silk-like feel. Superior to basic carded cotton, combed cotton garments are colorfast and do not fade or bleed.
  • Cotton
    A soft white fiber that is harvested from the seed pod of the cotton plant. Cotton is a staple raw material used on its own or in blends to create new fabrics. This natural fabric keeps cool in warm weather.

  • Embroidery
    Decoration of a garment in which various colored threads are sewn on to the fabric to create a design.
  • Jersey
    A generic term referring to knitted fabrics without a distinct rib, usually made of cotton. This fabric was named jersey since it was first manufactured on the island of Jersey, off the coast of England.

  • Knit Fabric
    A fabric formed by the intermeshing of loops of yarn, usually made of cotton or blended cotton.

  • Mesh
    An open, net-like fabric that is available in a variety of constructions and can be woven or knitted.

  • Nylon
    A synthetic fiber that is durable, lightweight and resilient. Nylon is the first completely synthetic fiber developed.

  • Organza
    A thin stiff translucent silk or synthetic dress fabric. Organza is usually used in evening and wedding gowns.

  • Polyester
    A synthetic fiber that is strong, resilient, highly resistant to abrasion and has low absorbency. Polyester is found in many blended fabrics and is used in a wide range of apparel.

  • Rib knit
    A knitted fabric with a ridge effect in one direction, usually vertical. Rib knits are elastic in the crosswise direction and usually used in T-shirts and casual wear to provide a close, body-hugging fit.

  • Satin Fabric
    A fabric that has a silky, lustrous surface. Usually used in women's formal apparel for glamour effect.

  • Silk
    A strong, luxurious, natural fiber produced by silkworms (primarily in China).

  • Spaghetti strap
    Thin, cord-like strap made of fabric and usually found on camisole and chemise.

  • Tap Pant
    Ladies’ shorts similar to men's boxers with open seams on the side, flare at the hem. Tap pants usually complement camisoles.

  • Yarn
    A cluster of individual fibers twisted together into continuous strands for creating fabrics.
